Uses
Used as a preservative
Add during the cool-down phase within its recommended pH range.
Typically used at 0.5–1.0% in cosmetic formulations
Add in the cool‑down phase (<40 °C) to maximize preservative efficacy and minimize unnecessary thermal stress
Readily soluble in polar solvents such as propylene glycol and 1,3-propanediol, and is moderately soluble in glycerol and sorbitol.
Benefits
Protects water-based products from bacteria, yeast, and mold, helping to stabilize the formulation. It shows no interaction with sulphite ions, is compatible with a wide range of cosmetic ingredients, and has no reported issues with discoloration.
